'I’d rather be ahead than behind': Windsor's acute care hospital project ahead of schedule
The highly anticipated acute care hospital project is officially ahead of schedule, which means shovels could hit the ground sooner than expected.
Windsor Regional Hospital has issued a request for proposals for a construction manager to lead Phase 1 of the "mega-hospital" project, a step the team was scheduled to reach this coming spring.
"I’d rather be ahead than behind. So clearly, being in front of it is a lot better feeling. And to move it forward, we all have our personal experiences—even trying to put a deck on the back of your house, how difficult that might be,” joked Windsor Regional Hospital president David Musyj. “You can just imagine what a close-to-2-million-square-foot project looks like in a hospital setting. With the government’s support and the government’s pushing, we’re out to tender in 2024, which was not on anyone’s bingo card."
This phase includes a parking garage, an education and administration building, and key infrastructure to support future construction.
Hospital officials say construction is on track to begin by 2026, if not sooner.
