Windsor fire crews discovered 16 cats in one apartment unit after fire broke out in a multi-use complex in the 1600 block of Tecumseh Rd East.

Damage is estimated at $450,000.

Of the 16 cats, eight were killed as a result of fire which broke out late Sunday night.

The fire began on the first floor of the two storey complex which contains five residential units and five commercial units.

The blaze occurred in a laundromat on the first floor but smoke filled all the residential units. No residents or fire fighters were injured.

An investigator was called in after the fire was brought under control. The cause is not known at this time.
