The 2013 International Children’s Games had a $6.3 million impact on Windsor-Essex, according to the Sport Tourism Economic Assessment Model.

The industry standard STEAM model also claims the games had a $8.9 million impact on the province.

The report said the event supported 49 jobs in Windsor-Essex paying $2.0 million in wages and salaries.

“We always knew the International Children’s Games had a significant economic impact for the region and now using an industry accepted and standard tool we were able to quantify it,” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island.

The event attracted almost 1,500 competitors and coaches from 80 cities and 31 countries along with 3,500 out of town spectators, who apparently spent $1.9 million in the region.
