The woman who drove the wrong way down the E.C. Row Expressway is now part of a Windsor police investigation.
The 59-year-old driver headed eastbound on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of the E.C. Row around 1 p.m. Monday.
Police say she got on the Expressway at Matchette Road and drove the wrong way until Banwell Road. Then she started driving the right way, eastbound from Banwell to Lesperance Road, where she got off the Expressway.
Police say a witness recorded the licence plate and officers were able to track down the driver and speak to her early in the evening.
“She was panicking and looking for exit,” says Const. Andrew Drouilard. “She tried to fix the situation.”
Police say she was involved in a serious crash 10 years ago that might have impacted her condition. They are looking into getting medical assessments.
“We’re obviously concerned with her medical well-being, as is the family,” says Drouillard. “So we are following up with an investigation. Her possible poor memory and forgetfulness might be an attributing factor.”
She could face careless or dangerous driving charges.
