A 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a razor, crowbar and a lighter.

On Wednesday, Chatham-Kent police received information that the man had assaulted his girlfriend while at a residence in Chatham on Feb. 21.

Police say during the altercation, the man cut the woman with a razor, assaulted her with a crow bar and burned her with a lighter.

The woman was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

Officers say through investigation, they learned that this was not the first incident of domestic violence between the couple.

Around noon Wednesday, police located the man and he was arrested.

He has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm and assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
