Private firm 'Green For Life' will continue to handle the City of Windsor's waste and recycling disposal.

The private company had the low bid of $38-million over the next seven years to win the contract.

Green For Life has been handling the trash and recycling since the function was outsourced in 2010 -- on the heels of a prolonged city strike in 2009.

Cupe local 82 -- whihc previously handled the service -- made a proposal to bring the work back "in-house." The union proposed a reduced-rate graduated pay scale and a no work-stoppage guarantee. But it wasn't enough to convince council to switch back.

Administration favoured GFL because of cost savings - roughly $4-million cheaper for operating costs alone over the life of the contract.

Council voted unanimously to stick with the outsourced model.
