Windsor, LaSalle and Tecumseh outdoor municipal pools will be closed Monday afternoon because of the solar eclipse.
The City of Windsor and has cancelled afternoon recreational swimming at its six outdoor pools. The pools will be closed from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. as a precaution.
“We know how hard it would be for people not to look up to see what’s happening”, said Aquatics Manager Jen Knights. “And they obviously wouldn’t be wearing solar safe eyewear, so rather than risk someone injuring their eyes we feel it’s better to just cancel the outdoor afternoon swimming on Monday”.
There will be a near total solar eclipse between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Monday, the first for this area since 1979.
Outdoor pool programming in Windsor will run as scheduled Monday morning and evening and indoor programming will not be impacted at all. Swimming hours return to normal on Tuesday.
The outdoor pool in LaSalle will be closed from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday as a precaution.
The Tecumseh Leisure Pool, located within Lacasse Park, will be closed Monday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“In an effort to reduce the risk of injury to eyes of patrons and staff, the Tecumseh Leisure Pool has cancelled the afternoon Recreational Swim”, says Brett Palmer, Supervisor Recreation Programs & Events.
Regularly scheduled swim lessons in Tecumseh will resume, starting at 3:45 p.m.
