About 50 people attended an information meeting for Uber in Windsor on Thursday morning.

It was a meet-and-greet style event at the Holiday Inn on Huron Church. The company also held a meeting on Wednesday night.

The meeting was closed to the media, but attendees told CTV News afterwards that they were given handouts saying Uber drivers could make up to $35 an hour.

“We don't have specific launch plans for Windsor to share at the moment,” says Uber spokesperson Susie Heath.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with the Mayor, city council and city officials as part of our ongoing process as we explore expansion possibilities and move towards a new regulatory framework that embraces ridesharing.”

Information handouts also say that Uber drivers must have proper documents and a background check.

Last week, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said the city should be prepared for Uber.

“This is the wave of the future,” says Dilkens. “It's coming whether we like it or not."

Dilkens asked city administration to find ways to amend current by-laws so that businesses like Uber could operate.

Uber has been controversial in other cities, sparking protests from taxi drivers.
