Two Windsor men have been arrested for allegedly stealing a minivan and bundles of roofing shingles.
Windsor police saw the reported stolen brown minivan travelling through the Home Depot parking lot off Sydney Avenue Tuesday at 12:15 a.m.
Officers started to follow the vehicle and activated the lights in attempt to pull it over. The two men inside exited from the driver's side door through the Devonshire Mall parking lot.
After a brief police chase on foot, both men, ages 27 and 20, were arrested. Officers say when they checked inside the minivan, they found several bundles of roofing shingles.
At 12:34 a.m., while officers were investigating, the owner of the minivan called police dispatch to report the van had been stolen by a man who was at his house to look at the van, which was for sale.
Police say the man and his friend took the van for a short test drive and returned to the owner's residence. The owner says he went inside his home for a minute, but the van and the men were gone when he came back out.
Officers are still trying to find the origin of the roofing shingles.
The men are facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter and theft and two counts of possession of stolen property obtained by crime.
