A crowdfunding page and trust fund have now been organized for Doctor Elana Fric-Shamji.
The site "Youcaring" has already attracted more than $100,000 in donations for the family of the 40-year-old family doctor, who was killed last week. The goal is to raise $125,000.
She grew up in Tecumseh and attended St. Anne high school.
Elana Fric-Shamji is survived by her three young children.
Members of the medical community have set up the funds to help with the children’s long-term care.
Friends are also asking for donations to go to the Shelter Movers of Toronto or the Canadian Centre for Refugee Health Care, saying Elana was passionate about global health and equitable care.
Police believe Elana was murdered in her home in Toronto before her body was found by a roadway in Vaughan.
40-year-old Mohammed Shamji, Elana’s husband, is now charged with first-degree murder.
