A 17-year-old male is improving in hospital after police say he was intentionally hit with a vehicle for trying to help a 21-year-old man who was being assaulted.

Windsor police were called to Pillette Road and Ontario Street for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Sunday at 1 a.m.

Investigation revealed that a 21-year old-man was walking in the area when he was approached by a group of males in a vehicle.

The group exited their vehicle and allegedly assaulted the victim, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police say the 17-year-old tried to help the assault victim and was also allegedly assaulted by the group of males.

The group of males got back in the suspect vehicle and appeared to intentionally run over the 17-year-old, say police.

The teen was transported to hospital with serious injuries.  He was moved from critical condition to stable condition.

Officers are calling it an attempted murder.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect males or the vehicle used to call.  They are also asking anyone with surveillance video in the area to contact the police.
