"Let kids be kids!"
That was the message by parents Saturday morning at Charles Clark Square during a protest over Ontario's new sex education curriculum.
Students in Grade 6 will learn about masturbation and "gender expression" while those in Grade 7 will learn about the dangers of sexting.
"If this education needs to be taught, it needs to be taught on our terms," says concerned parent Gregory Moore.
"The province is putting a one size fits all education on all these kids and these kids are at different levels at different times in their life," he says.
Protesters claim the provincial government needs to be supporting parents when it comes to sexual education not replacing them.
In a statement to CTV News, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education says, "This curriculum will not be replacing the role of parents in educating their children on sexuality and sexual health. It is about providing our students with access to accurate information on their health and well-being."
Derek Thachuk, chair of the Elementary School Parent Advisory Council for the Catholic School Board, isn't impressed.
"We know our children better than a bunch of bureaucrats, a thousand miles away," he says.
