A group of students and alumni at the University of Windsor say the Lancer Student Recreation Centre referendum is invalid.
“The failure to provide proper notice for the referendum invalidates the entire process, and as such a revote must immediately be called,” said Mohammad Akbar.
According to a release the Graduate Student Society’s constitution calls for a two-week notice period for referendums, but that notice for the referendum was posted on the same day it started.
“By not providing a notice period, students who wanted to debate or organize around the issue were disadvantaged,” says Akbar.
The Graduate Student Society voted 457 to 290 in favour of the proposal. If the board approves the project, construction of the new sports complex would be done by 2020
