Some workers from Windsor Engine walked out of a Wednesday Night meeting saying they had a sense of relief.

Chris Taylor who represents Unifor Local 200 told members, production of Ford’s 5.4 litre V-8 engine has been extended. The news came as a relief to him.

“This is some of the best news we've had in a long time,” Taylor says.

The decision means 120 people will keep their jobs, but 80 will be put on layoff when the change takes effect in October.

Taylor cautions the V-8 will be eliminated at some point in the future.

However, before that happens, Taylor says the union will continue to push the automaker for a replacement product.

Auto analyst Tony Faria says the engine plant is old and needs major rehabilitation work to keep competitive.

Still, Faria says the automaker is looking to launch two new eco-boost engines this year, one of which still doesn’t have a factory.
