A fire at a home in Windsor is being listed as an arson.
Firefighters responded to a call around 6 p.m. Tuesday at 1610 Felix Avenue after neighbours noticed flames inside the building.
Neighbour Nathan Briffa says there was a strong scent of burning plastic.
“I went out in the back yard, and investigated, and saw smoke billowing out of the house, and at that point, I knew it wasn't just somebody burning stuff in their backyard," says Briffa.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire an hour later, but damage was extensive with the total estimated to be around $100,000.
“The smoke was quite dark, stinging," says Briffa.
There was no one home at the time for the fire, and investigators say the blaze was deliberately set on the first floor.
Andrea Dejong of Windsor fire says the owner of the house passed away about a year ago and family stopped in occasionally to look after the house, which was still furnished.
“It was very very hot, lots of stuff inside the house, lots of stuff to burn,” says Dejong. “The fire did travel unfortunately throughout the whole home."
One firefighter had to be treated for minor injuries after suffering a cut hand.
