Employees of the Paul Martin Buiding are being warned not to use the main entrance.

A notice from the Canadian government says the crumbling façade poses a risk to employees. Chair of the Downtown Business Improvement Association says he’s in talks with the federal government to come to some sort of agreement to restore the building.

“There's a tremendous concern about what is going on,” says Larry Horwitz.

He adds the condition of the building is not an attraction to city visitors. “They’re turning off Americans from coming downtown.”

A workplace health and safety officer says the issue must be fixed immediately, or within a specific time period.

Meanwhile, the Public Works and Government Services Canada wants to gauge the private sector interest in the building and has listed the building for sale or lease.

The department has scheduled what it calls an Industry Engagement Day at the Windsor Essex Development Corporation on June 19.

The building has been in need of repair for some time.

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis has estimated $15 million is needed to restore the building.
