Tecumseh firefighters will soon be better prepared to deal with potential railway hazards.

CP Rail is teaming with fire crews to increase preparedness in the event of a hazardous derailment in Essex County. The training focuses on safety equipment and material containment.

It comes months after tankers in Lac-Megantic, Que. derailed, destroying the town – killing 47 people.

An expert on railway safety and hazardous materials will now come in to train first responders. Tecumseh fire joins a growing list of municipalities, who are taking the initiative to be prepared.   

In Windsor, fire Chief Bruce Montone is waiting for a report from rail companies, outlining the type of hazardous goods that travel through the city.
