The cause of a fatal house fire in east Windsor early Wednesday has been determined to be careless smoking.

Fire engulfed the home at 1407 Aubin Rd. shortly after 1 a.m. and investigators spent much of the rest of Wednesday and Thursday going over the scene.

Ninety-two-year-old Evelyn Drouillard died in the fire. She was found in a main floor bedroom.

She is being remembered by family and friends as a loving, family-oriented woman.

Two other people, including Drouillard's adult son, were able to escape the blaze.

Damage to the home is pegged at nearly $300,000.
