Investigators were back at the scene Thursday of a fatal fire in the city's east end.
Flames ripped through a family home on Aubin Road shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The fire claimed the life of 91-year-old Evelyn Drouillard.
Ron Drouillard Jr., the grandson of the victim, says she came from a caring, close-knit family. He said after learning of the fire, "We all kind of knew it probably wasn't good."
As family and friends absorb their tragic loss they remember Evelyn as a loving family person. Ron says, "She was a great lady. She had a big family and we were happy to have her for as long as we did."
Ron says his grandmother recently moved into the two-storey duplex at 1407 Aubin Rd. with his father, Ron Sr.
When asked how his father was doing Drouillard said, "He's still, you know, still taking it all in and still trying to cope with it all."
Windsor police Sgt. Matthew D’Asti says police and an investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office continue to look for a cause.
“It's a painstaking process for them as investigators to process the fire scene."
D'Asti says an autopsy was performed on the deceased Thursday morning in London, but it may be a few days before any results are known.
Ron says, "We're just trying to stay together as a family, be strong; get through it. And there's a lot of support."
At this point, officials say the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
