Yet another hoax had emergency crews scrambling early Thursday morning on the Detroit River.

At 1:40 a.m.  the Canadian Coast Guard stationed out of Amherstburg received a call from a disabled boat on the Detroit River. The caller informed the coast guard that four people were on the boat and that the vessel was taking on water.

Rescue crews were dispatched from both the Canadian and U.S. Coast Guard. A helicopter from Traverse City, Mich. was also called in to assist with the search.

After combing the water for four hours, the coast guard determined the call to be a hoax.

It comes just days after LaSalle police determined 42 calls from a “distressed individual” to be fake.
