Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie has been acclaimed as the Ontario Progressive Conservative party’s representative for the riding in the next provincial election.

About 30 people including Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness Rob Flack attended the acclamation meeting.

“The campaign effectively begins for me now,” Dowie said at a hall at the Riverside Branch of the Windsor Public Library.

Dowie was first elected as MPP in the 2022 election. Prior to provincial politics, Dowie served as the Ward 1 councillor for the Town of Tecumseh.

When asked about the timing of the nomination, Dowie said it’s not a signal voters could head to the polls in the near future. Ontario’s next provincial election is slated for 2026.

“Well, I was nominated for the 2022 election in November 2020, so I have roughly the same amount of runway with this nomination towards the next election as I did the first time,” Dowie told CTV News. “Should there ever be an election I'll be ready for it.”

Dowie said the top priorities in the community remain to find solutions to the affordability and housing challenges residents currently face.
