The Amherstburg police service has become the first police department in Ontario to standardize the use of body cameras for its officers.

Front line police officers are being outfitted with the cameras. This comes following a trial run in 2013 and 2014.

Senior Const. Shawn McCurdy says the use of the cameras provides transparency in interactions with the public.

The town has more than 20 body cameras for its front line officers and McCurdy says the cameras will also be used during traffic stops.
