Windsor’s Ronald McDonald House is celebrating a major milestone.

It’s been a year since the Ronald McDonald House opened in Windsor Regional Hospital.

The facility provides a home-away-from-home environment for seriously ill or injured children and their families.

Hospital officials say 122 families have stayed there in the first year and it has provided 1611 nights of comfort collectively.

The average stay is 13 nights and the longest stay is 73 nights.

Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj says the house within a hospital was always part of the planning process for the new mega hospital.

In fact when RMHC first came to Windsor with the idea, Musyj says they told them this needed to be included in that long term vision for health care in Windsor-Essex.

A grand total of $149,000 was raised in Windsor-Essex during Wednesday's McHappy Day.

$112,000 will support Windsor's Ronald McDonald House. The remaining $38,000 will go to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Windsor-Essex and In Honour of The Ones We Love.
