Windsor police are participating in a nationwide human trafficking investigation with several other police units throughout Ontario.

It’s part of Operation Northern Spotlight Phase 3.

On June 17 and June 18, Windsor police and numerous human trafficking/vice units talked to female victims during the two-day operation to determine if they are being exploited or involved in human trafficking in relation to the sex trade.

Police say they came into contact with the following;

- Spoke with eight females involved in the sex trade.

- One 16-year-old from the GTA was arrested for breach of recognizance and outstanding warrants, ensuring her safety and rescue.

- One 17-year-old was rescued and placed in a local women shelter as a place of safety.

- One female was involved the sex trade and upon education from officers, advised that she plans to exit and accepted resources to facilitate the exit.

- All individuals were provided safety plans and resources to exit the sex trade.

Police say initiatives such as these not only enhance the communication between the police and sex trade worker, but provide valuable information when linking the possible victim of human trafficking with their associated exploiters.
