Windsor Police were called out to the 300 block of Elliott Street West after a report a man with machete around 5:30 pm Thursday.
A witness told officers the suspect had approached him and demanded a cigarette.
The witness refused to hand over a smoke and noted the suspect was carrying a machete.
He backed off and called police.
Officers attended a rear yard pointed out by the witness.
They confronted a 39 year old Windsor man who initially refused to drop the weapon.
However, authorities say he complied when police drew their firearms.
