Windsor’s streak of eight straight zero tax increases could be coming to an end.
Mayor Drew Dilkens made the comment after tonight’s council meeting.
The 2017 budget documents landed on councilors’ doorsteps last week.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says there is a pathway to zero -- the city would need to find $17-million in savings -- but it isn't pretty and will likely not receive his endorsement.
“With respect to the path to zero, you can see there's a lot of pain to reach zero this year,” Dilkens said. “It would involve frankly closures of certain facilities, so I suspect that council would have a very difficult time getting to zero this year with the cuts that are proposed."
Dilkens says there will be more information regarding the budget coming out later this week.
The mayor stated previously that the city needs to find $17 million in savings to accomplish a zero budget.
He wouldn't hint how much taxes may go up -- just that "holding the line" isn't likely in the cards
