A retired Windsor police dog has died.

Police say Beezel passed away at home with his handler Sgt. John Virban and family at his side.

He was 13-years-old.

Beezel served with Windsor police from July 2001 to December 2006. He provided operational support for patrol and was trained in general purpose duties which included tracking, searching, building searches, open searches, article searches, handler protection, and apprehension.

The canine received three divisional commendations and 30 letters of meritorious work recognition. He helped with 128 arrests, found three missing children and was involved in 2402 canine calls.

Beezel won several awards, including three consecutive USPCA regional championships 2004-2006.
