Chatham-Kent police say four new male victims have come forward after a retired school teacher was charged with sex-related offences.

Jim Lekavy, 67, of Chatham, is now facing 11 counts of gross indecency, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault on a male, two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of uttering threats. The alleged incidents date back between 1973 and 1991.

He was originally charged on Sept. 11, with four counts of indecent assault on a male, three counts of sexual assault and one count of buggery dating back to the early 1980’s. He was released with conditions.

Lekavy was employed as an elementary school teacher for 39 years and taught at Tilbury Area Public School, Romney Central Public School and Wheatley Public School.

He was released again with conditions pending a future court date of Oct. 25.

Investigators say they want to ensure that there are no other victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact Const. Kate McArthur of the Major Crime Unit at 519-380-6598 or via email at katem@chatham-kent.ca.
