A 41-year-old Windsor man was issued a seven-day licence suspension after police say he had consumed alcohol and was driving erratically with a four-year-old child in the car.

A concerned citizen called Chatham-Kent police around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night about an erratic driver travelling on Chatham Street in Blenheim.

The caller saw the vehicle leave the road, enter a ditch, and then re-enter the road, say police. The citizen safely followed the driver and gave police a vehicle description.

Police stopped the vehicle on Communication Road north of Shrewsbury.

The Windsor man was driving the car with a four-year-old child passenger. Officers believed the driver had consumed alcohol and gave him a roadside screening test.

His blood alcohol concentration was measured in the warn range and officers say they found alcohol inside the car.

The man was issued a seven-day licence suspension, since he had previously received a three-day licence suspension for drinking and driving. His vehicle was towed from the road.

The driver and child were turned over to the care of family members.
