Windsor police are thanking several Windsor residents who pulled a man in distress from the Detroit River on Saturday evening.

Officers were called to the riverfront just west of Ouellette Avenue around 5 p.m. for a reported marine emergency.

On arrival, police say they found a croud gathered around a male on a park bench who was soaking wet.

According to investigators, two people saw the male in distress and rushed to help, pulling him out of the water and then covering him with their own clothing to warm him up, with others arriving soon after to help.

The male was carried by two citizens to a police cruiser to warm up, where he was also treated by firefighters before being transported to hospital by EMS for care.

Police say they, "are appreciative of the quick thinking and fast actions of these citizens in rescuing this male from the Detroit River."
