An Ottawa Street business owner has his painting back and Windsor police have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft.

Police were called to Holland's Collectibles and Curiosity Shoppe at Moy Avenue and Ottawa Street on Monday.

Owner Lawrence Holland reported a large painting missing from the stairwell of his business. The painting featured horses fleeing a burning barn. The painting was priced at $550.

Surveillance video obtained by CTV News showed a man in the store browsing around and eventually taking the painting and leaving without paying.

Police received information Wednesday about the possible identity of the suspect. Officers made several attempts to speak with the suspect. A relative and the suspect called police Thursday.

Officers say when they went to his house, the suspect was waiting outside with the painting in his hands. He was arrested without incident.

A 41-year-old Windsor man is charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date later this month.
