The threat of freezing rain has ended for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, but now snow is on the way, according to a special statement issued by Environment Canada.

The forecaster says an Alberta clipper will sail across Southern and Eastern Ontario today and tonight, bringing a general snowfall to all the regions.

Windsor and Chatham areas should get snowfall amounts of about two centimetres. A total of five to 12 centimetres of snow is predicted from Grey - Bruce east across Muskoka into the Ottawa Valley. Further south, most regions will receive near five cm of snow in total.

In the wake of a cold front associated with the clipper, brisk and gusty northwesterly winds will usher in fresh and colder Arctic air beginning tonight, says Environment Canada. Blowing snow in areas exposed to the stiff northwesterly flow is expected tonight as the cold air moves in.

Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate after the snow arrives. Motorists should expect to deal with snow-covered, slippery roads and low visibility in snow and occasional blowing snow.

The snow from this clipper could have considerable impact on the afternoon and early evening commute home from work.
