Windsor police spent hours outside a building with their guns drawn as they dealt with a 'police matter' on Tuesday afternoon.

The public was asked to avoid a section of Tecumseh Road East after officers were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m.

Police sectioned off the area at Gladstone Avenue from Tecumseh Road to Seneca Street, as officers with the Emergency Services Unit positioned themselves outside a building in the 1800 block of Gladstone.

A woman at the scene tells CTV Windsor reporter Rich Garton that police were focusing their attention on a residence above a bakery.

Shortly before 6 p.m. a man was escorted from the building in handcuffs to a waiting police transport vehicle.

But as of 7 p.m. police remained inside a bakery on the ground floor of the building.

Tecumseh Road was closed for several hours during the incident.
