DETROIT - An inmate is facing new charges after authorities say he stabbed a sheriff's deputy with a shank fashioned from a plastic comb during a daring escape from a Detroit courthouse.

Abraham Pearson was taken into custody Monday night following a daylong manhunt.

Authorities say the 25-year-old Pearson also stole the stabbed deputy's clothes and carjacked a minivan from a woman near the courthouse.

He had been at the court to be sentenced for carjacking and armed robbery.

Sheriff Benny Napoleon says Pearson now faces 11 additional charges related to his violent escape. Napoleon says he is "looking at a considerable amount of time" behind bars if he's convicted on the new charges.

Wayne County sheriff's spokesman Dennis Niemiec said Tuesday that Pearson also goes by the alias Derreck White.
