Windsor police, with the help of the K-9 Unit, arrested a suspect who fled on foot through the city.

Around 11 p.m. Friday, police were called to the 500 block of Bridge Avenue for reports of a prowler.

A K-9 Unit attended the area and the officer was approached by a citizen who indicated that a male suspect was breaking into a pickup truck in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Wyandotte Street West.

Police say the officer observed the suspect walking away from a pickup truck that had a smashed out window and - upon noticing th officer - casually attending the rear porch to a residence and knocking on the door yelling for someone to open the door as if he lived there.

When the officer and her K-9 approached the male, the suspect would not remove his hands from his pockets and suddenly ran across Wyandotte Street West towards Leopards Lounge, entering the east door of the business.

Patrons reportedly told the officer that he had then exited through the west door.

Shortely after, a female resident in the 500 block of Wellington Avenue notified officers in the area that someone had just tried to gain access to her residence by trying her rear door.

Police also received information the suspect had just stolen a bicycle from the rear yard of a residence in the 500 block of Cameron and was riding north in the alley.

The K-9 officer attended the alley and observed the same suspect on a bicycle riding towards her. She shouted at the suspect to stop or she would release the dog.

The suspect ignored the command and continued to ride away. The dog was deployed and latched onto the suspect's left arm, forcing him to slow down the bicycle. He was then arrested.

Stolen property from the pickup truck as well as fresh broken auto glass were found in the suspect's pockets. The stolen property from the truck was returned to the owner and the bicycle was also returned to the owner.

The suspect received a small puncture to his left forearm and was examined by EMS but declined treatment.

Jonathan Edwards, 31, is charged with two counts of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, mischief and two counts of failure to comply with recognizance in relation to alcohol consumption and curfew.
