It has been a blustery day in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, with reports of wind gusts taking down trees, fences, and power lines.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning on Monday afternoon, as a system moving into the region brought strong gusts and the potential for thunderstorms. While there's been no sign of lightning in the skies, the system has brought damaging winds.

The weather authority say wind speeds could hit between 60 km/h to 100 km/h throughout Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. These strong winds have brought down power lines, large branches and could prove difficult for drivers, especially on highways.

Hydro One is reporting several power outages throughout the region. Thousands are without power in Essex Couny and Chatham-Kent. For some, hydro is not expected to be restored until Tuesday. To find out more about the power outages you can click here.

Also in Chatham, OPP have closed a section of Highway 40 between Greenvalley Line and Cedar Hedge Line, as crews contend with downed power lines. It's a similar scene throughout Essex County.

In Windsor, downed trees have blocked roadways, even causing a partial roof collapse at Ultimate Manufactured Systems in the 4100 block of Walker Road.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says these high winds could cause flooding in some areas, and damage the region's coastlines.

Environment Canada says a deep low pressure system over northeastern Ontario  is the cause of all the bluster as temperatures become mild.  This system may also produce 25 millimetres of rainfall in some areas.

However, the mild temperatures are not expected to linger too long. Environment Canada is forecasting a quick return to winter-life weather, as temperatures dip below freezing. Flurries may also develop overnight.

As such, the ERCA has extended their watershed outlook until 9 a.m. Tuesday. The conservation authority says with the ground already saturated, there could be extensive runoff.

Residents should also be wary of deep standing water in low-lying areas. At the same time, property owners are being asked to clear catch basins and other water inlets of leaves and other debris.
