“As far as I’m concerned this process is over.”
Those are the words of Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne on whether any future talks will take place with provincial and federal governments in Canada. He made the comment at a news conference Friday in Sterling Heights, MI., where a celebratory walkthrough of their state-of-the-art Chrysler facility was held.
The automaker announced on March 4, that it would be build the next minivan out of the Windsor Assembly Plant. At the same time, Chrysler withdrew all requests from the federal and provincial for financial assistance for development.
Chrysler has stated they will allocate the funds needed for their Canadian operations, which include Windsor and Brampton. However, it’s not clear exactly how much money will be pumped into these facilities.
Marchionne remained tight lipped about the WAP investment and whether or not a long-term plan is in place to keep the automaker in the Rose City.
“You’ll just have to wait and see.”
However, Marchionne says Windsor’s current facility could support other vehicles.
“It’s possible for other cars to be built on that architecture.”
