The Windsor Spitfires have confirmed they are looking to enter a bid to host the 2017 Memorial Cup.
The Spitfires will be submitting a letter of intent and standard bid application shortly to host the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup.
Bob Boughner, the Spitfires president, said in a statement, "At the end of the day, if we are selected to present, we will take our experience from previous bid applications along with all our resources and efforts to represent our city, fans and organization to the selection committee."
The news was released the same day as the city's new sports tourism officer, Samantha Magalas, started her job to help attract sporting events to the city.
Both she and the city think the push to host the cup is a good one, "It would be an oustanding opportunity for the city. It's such a presitgious event and being able to bring that to the City of Windsor, I mean previous host cities have brought in 40,000 to 50,000 spectators and participants to the event."
Magalas was previously the sports programming coordinator at Ontario University Athletics, where she worked with 20 universities across the province.
She plans to take the week to get to know those she'll be working with before she moves forward, but already has ideas for the future.
"We're not just sticking to maybe traditional events, but really expanding our horizon and seeing what we can bring into this city that's maybe new and different - and where we can support our current organizations and see what they're doing," she says.
The Spitfires will know on March 2 if they are invited to make a formal bid presentation on April 18 in Toronto.
