Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement ahead of this weekend due to the possibility of heavy rain.

Most of southern Ontario is likely to see significant rain this weekend, including Windsor and surrounding areas.

The weather system comes just days after severe thunderstorms cut across southern Ontario early Tuesday morning.

A low pressure system will arrive Saturday bringing rain and cooler temperatures across the region. In some areas the rain may continue through Sunday.

Areas from Windsor to the Golden Horseshoe could see rainfall amounts in the 30 to 60 millimetre range. Central and Eastern Ontario could see amounts from 20 to 40 millimetres.

Easterly winds are also expected to develop Saturday with gusts as high as 70 km/h. The strongest winds will be in areas along the Lower Great Lakes.
