A retired school teacher from Chatham is facing 40 criminal charges after police say more victims have come forward.
Chatham-Kent police arrested Jim Lekavy, 67, on Sept. 11 for alleged historical sexual offences involving a school aged male child. Police say four more victims came forward in late September.
Police say three more male victims recently came forward. As a result, Lekavy has been charged with four counts of sexual interference, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual exploitation, two counts of indecent assault on a male, and two counts of gross indecency.
The incidents allegedly took place between 1973 and 1991.
Officers say there are now a total of eight identified victims.
Lekavy was employed as an elementary school teacher for 39 years and taught at Tilbury Area Public School, Romney Central Public School and Wheatley Public School.
Investigators say they want to ensure that there are no other victims. Anyone with information can contact Const. Kate McArthur of the Major Crime Unit at 519-380-6598 or via email at katem@chatham-kent.ca.
