A 43-year-old man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after a seven-year-old girl was airlifted to a London hospital in critical condition from severe burns.
Police say she has serious burns to her face, torso, hands and feet
Firefighters were called to the 1680 Balfour St. about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
The girl's mother suffered serious burns to her hand and will require more treatment. An 11-month-old girl was unharmed.
Neighbours, who rallied to help, tell CTV News they could hear the girl screaming, "He's trying to kill us."
One man says he ran inside the burning house.
"I heard the screaming then seen all the curtains go up in flames," says Todd McCandless.
"I pulled her and one of the little ones off the porch. I grabbed the dog and brought them across the street to the neighbours house."
The aunt of the girl says she's been in contact with the family.
"Everyone is pretty much devastated, but the little girl is doing much better. She was in a coma. I don't know if she's still in the coma, but she's comfortable at the moment."
Police say Kenneth Kormendy was arrested on scene.
He appeared in court Sunday and is charged with three counts each of attemped murder and arson/fire disregard for human life and two counts of arson/fire causing bodily harm.
The investigation is ongoing and police ask that anyone with information to call 519-255-6700 ext 4830.
