Leamington could be the next municipality to implement an outdoor smoking ban.

During Monday’s town council meeting, Leamington councillors voted 4-3 in favour of drafting a proposed by-law.

It could mean a ban on lighting up on all municipally-owned sports fields, playgrounds and trails.

Once drafted, it will come back to town council for final approval.

Meanwhile, Essex council also debated a ban on smoking on municipally owned properties Monday night.

Administration will come back with a report further investigating options the town can take.

The report is expected back at the next council meeting.
