A LaSalle dad, who was walking with his children along the shoreline of the Detroit River, located a suspicious object just south of the Windsor Salt Mine on Saturday afternoon.

Officers of the LaSalle Police Service were called to the scene, and confirmed the object was a body of a middle aged male.

The body was retrieved from the water and found to have identification leading the officers to believe the deceased might be from the United States.

Officers have contacted authorities stateside to confirm the identity and notify next of kin.

The cause of death is not known and the body is scheduled for a post mortem examination on Monday.

LaSalle police expect to release more information after the post mortem.
