Windsor shoppers now have another option for furniture shopping.
Ikea is holding the official grand opening for the Pick-Up and Order Point location on Monday.
"The Pick-Up and Order Points are allowing IKEA to expand quickly into markets that have been identified as having potential, resulting in IKEA becoming more accessible to Canadians," says ," said Stefan Sjöstrand, president of IKEA Canada.
Windsor mayor Drew Dilkens was on hand for the opening to welcome Ikea to the city.
"Our residents have been eagerly waiting for the grand opening of this popular and well-respected brand,” says Dilkens. “Thank you, IKEA, for your confidence in the Windsor market and for your investment in our city."
The new store is about 35,000 square feet and is located in the former Future Shop on Walker Road. It is around one-tenth the size of an average Ikea.
Some smaller items will be available to purchase at the store, other items can be ordered and shipped to the store or their home.
The location features a home furnishing inspiration area as well as stations to support customers with their planning process.
The company hired 31 people from the Windsor-essex area to staff its new store.
