Windsor police officers engaged in a high-speed chase to catch a suspect in a reported stolen vehicle Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the 800 block of Hall Avenue around 1:30 a.m. The caller said a man was using a screwdriver and manipulating the steering column of a parked car. The suspect started the vehicle and traveled south on Hall Avenue and turned West on Niagara Street.
Officers activated lights and sirens when they saw the vehicle heading westbound on Niagara. Police say the vehicle would not pull over. More police units went to the area as the vehicle went south on Howard Avenue.
The vehicle was stopped at a dead end in the 2200 block of Marentette Avenue.
The driver was arrested without incident. Officers found a screwdriver and hammer in the front of the vehicle. Police say there was also fresh damage to the steering column of the 2000 Chrysler.
Brandon Skalba, 28, of Windsor is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a break-in instrument, failing to stop for police and breach of probation.
