An investigation that began in Guelph has resulted in a former Windsor police officer facing several charges related to incidents with minors during his days in the city.
Windsor Police issued a news release Wednesday stating 65-year-old John Robert Leigh Taylor, currently of Guelph, is facing, one charge of sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault, and five counts of gross indecency.
The dates of the incidents range from 1974 – 1984 and the victim ages at the time of the alleged offences range from 11 - 14 years of age.
Windsor police also confirmed that Taylor was once a member of the Windsor Police Services from 1972-1979. Some of the years he was an officer cross over with the dates of the alleged offences.
Police noted that when in Windsor he was a foster parent, and he was involved with a number of community activities associated with youth, including coaching local baseball teams.
In January Guelph police began an investigation into Leigh Taylor that resulted into numerous sexual-related charges.
Leigh Taylor was first arrested on March 3 and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
He was arrested on June 11 and charged with five counts of sexual assault and sexual interference along with three counts of exposure to a person under 16 years and three counts of indecent acts.
Guelph police contacted Windsor police after learning Leigh Taylor once lived in Windsor. Since then five men have spoken to the Major Crime investigators about being victims to similar alleged offences.
Police are encouraging any more victims to come forward and that any survivor of sexual-related offences is encouraged to seek help and assistance.
