CTV News has learned the identity of the 52-year-old man, who died after a confrontation with Chatham-Kent police.
That death is now the subject of an SIU investigation.
Multiple sources tell CTV News the victim is Shawn Davis, a district chief with Essex-Windsor EMS.
Late Thursday, the SIU confirmed that the name of the vicitm is Shawn Davis.
Early Thursday, EMS Chief Bruce Krauter issued a statement about the death of Shawn Davis, calling it 'a sudden and tragic passing' of one of their district chiefs.
Krauter went on to say, his devotion and pride to the field of paramedicine was outstanding and will be greatly missed.
He concluded by saying out of respect for our colleague and the gravity of yesterday's events, Essex-Windsor EMS will not be addressing any further questions.
But sources tell CTV News Davis died sometime Wednesday at a home on Greenfield Lane in Chatham.
The provinces' SIU is looking into the circumstances. It’s an agency that is called in to investigate whenever a civilian is injured or dies, after an involvement with law enforcement officials.
Sometime before midnight Tuesday, police were called here for a domestic incident.
SIU officials say Chatham-Kent police remained outside, until 7 a.m. Wednesday when they entered the house and found the body of a 52-year-old man inside.
That investigation is ongoing.
People who worked with Davis describe him as a dedicated paramedic and a good mentor to new recruits joining the service.
Davis had been a medic for Essex-Windsor for 16 years, having worked previously for four other paramedicine services across Ontario.
Krauter says he was also on many paramedicine associations and volunteered for local groups.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized for Davis.
