The Technical Standards and Safety Authority is warning area residents to return 20 pound propane tanks purchased at the Canadian Tire store at 8505 Tecumseh Road East since Friday.
The TSSA believes the tanks may have been over-filled, which could cause them to vent – posing an imminent fire and explosion risk if the propane comes in contact with an ignition source.
The issue was discovered after Windsor fire received multiple calls about leaky propane tanks.
So far, six of the 101 tanks in question have been found and disposed of safely.
The east end propane centre was shutdown at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The Safety Authority suspects a malfunctioning weighing station was the problem.
