U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ambassador Bridge seized 22 pounds of suspected marijuana hidden within a vehicle owned and operated by a Canadian woman.
The 43-year-old woman was crossing the border at the bridge between Windsor to Detroit with her daughter, 24, on Oct. 1.
After the border officer received a negative declaration for any merchandise being brought into the United States, the car was referred for a secondary search.
Officers say the search of their vehicle resulted in the discovery of 20 bundles of suspected marijuana hidden throughout the vehicle.
“CBP officers rely on their training and instincts to detect suspicious activity,” said Rod Blanchard, Detroit port director. “I commend the CBP officers involved in stopping this shipment of drugs from reaching our streets.”
The driver and passenger were both turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents for further investigation.
