Chatham-Kent is now home to the largest wind farm in all of Canada.
Delegates from Chatham-Kent, Samsung and Pattern Energy Group were on hand Wednesday morning, for the official opening of South Kent Wind.
The farm utilizes 124 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines, which are estimated to produce renewable energy for up to 100,000 local homes.
“South Kent Wind will now deliver renewable energy and strong economic benefits to the region, including more than $7-million in direct spending into the local economy each year,” said Mike Garland, CEO of Pattern Energy.
The Ontario Power Authority and South Kent Wind have a 20-year power purchase agreement.
“We are committed to the local communities and are pleased to see more than 800 jobs dedicated to wind turbine blade manufacturing and tower fabrication in the Province,” said Jacob Andersen, VP, Wind Power, Siemens.
Samsung and Pattern Energy have committed $11-million over the next 20-years to South Kent Wind.
